Football betting rules at Habesha Bet

These football betting rules explain how Habesha Bet assesses common pre-match and live markets, including match result, totals, handicap, player bets, cards and corners. They are intended to help players understand football betting rules in Ethiopia before confirming a wager. Always check the market title, the time period shown, the event status and any special wording in your bet slip. If a specific market rule differs from this general explanation, the terms displayed for that market and the applicable Terms and Conditions take priority.

Habesha Bet aims to settle football bets using the published market rules and confirmed official event data. A result may be held while information is checked, particularly where a match is interrupted, a decision is reviewed or live data is incomplete. The following guidance describes the usual approach and does not replace the rules attached to an individual bet.

Standard settlement time: 90 minutes

For most football markets, settlement is based on 90 minutes of play plus the referee’s added time or stoppage time. This period is sometimes labelled “90 minutes,” “full time” or “regular time.” Added time is the extra time shown by the referee at the end of either half; it is not the same as extra time played after a drawn knockout match.

Unless the market says otherwise, the following markets normally use the score at the end of regular time:

  • Match Result / 1X2: home win, draw or away win after regular time;
  • Double Chance: two of those regular-time outcomes combined;
  • Total Goals: goals scored during regular time and stoppage time;
  • Handicap: the stated handicap applied to the regular-time result;
  • Both Teams to Score: whether each team scores during the covered period.

For example, if a match is 1–1 after 90 minutes and one team scores during extra time, a standard 1X2 bet is generally settled from the 1–1 score. Review the market wording whenever the event is a cup tie or another fixture that may continue beyond full time.

When extra time counts

Extra time football betting is different from ordinary 90 minutes football betting. Extra time consists of the additional playing period used to decide some matches after a draw in regular time. It is included only where the market name or its rules expressly refer to extra time, qualification, the winner of a tie, a trophy or an outright result.

Examples of wording that may include extra time are “including extra time,” “to qualify,” “winner of tie,” “team to lift the trophy” and “outright winner.” A To Qualify selection may be settled after extra time and a penalty shootout if the specific market permits both. By contrast, “Team A to win” under a standard 1X2 market generally refers to regular time only. The market label, not the importance of the match, determines the settlement period.

How penalties are settled

A penalty awarded and scored during normal play or extra time is a match event. It can affect a goals market when that market covers the relevant period. A penalty shootout is a separate tie-breaking procedure after the match has ended and is not automatically added to the football bet settlement.

Under typical penalty shootout betting rules, shootout kicks do not change the score used for 90-minute totals, handicap or Both Teams to Score markets. The shootout outcome may decide a qualification, trophy or outright winner market when that market includes it. Thus, a penalty during the match is not the same as a penalty shootout. Check the market conditions before assuming that a shootout will count.

Cancelled, postponed and abandoned matches

A cancelled football match bet, a postponed football match betting selection and an abandoned fixture may each require a different review. The outcome can depend on whether the match started, whether a market was already unambiguously determined and the time limit or competition condition stated in the applicable rules. Habesha Bet should not be assumed to apply one automatic result to every interrupted event.

  • If a match is cancelled before kick-off, selections may be declared void and the stake refunded, unless the relevant market rules provide another treatment.
  • If a match is postponed before it begins, the bet may remain open for the permitted rescheduling period or become void if that period expires.
  • If play begins but the match is abandoned, unsettled markets may be void unless their result was already determined under the applicable rules.
  • If the fixture is completed later, settlement may depend on whether the continuation is recognised as part of the original event.
  • If the official result is changed after the final whistle, Habesha Bet may review the settlement under its published Terms and Conditions.
  • If the event contains an incorrect date, team, competition or market description, the operator may investigate and correct or cancel the affected bet in line with the applicable rules.

Specific deadlines, such as a stated number of hours or the next calendar day, must be confirmed in the current Habesha Bet rules. If an event status appears incorrect, retain the bet reference and contact support rather than placing a second wager based on an assumption.

Live football betting settlement

Live football betting rules apply while a match is in progress. Prices can move quickly, and a submitted selection may be delayed while the system checks the match situation. A goal, red card, VAR review, penalty, injury or dangerous attack can cause a market suspension. A bet may then be accepted at a revised price, rejected, or remain pending until the event data is confirmed.

Live information is not always displayed at exactly the same moment as an incident on the pitch. The status shown in the bet slip and the confirmation received after submission are important. For more live-event navigation, see Habesha Bet live. A pending or rejected bet is not the same as an accepted bet, so check the final status before relying on it.

Odds changes and bet confirmation

A football odds change before acceptance does not mean that the original price has been confirmed. When the price changes, the system may show the new odds for approval or reject the selection. Only the odds and details displayed in the confirmed bet slip should be treated as the terms of an accepted bet.

Review the teams, market, selection, time period, stake and odds before pressing the confirmation button. This check is especially important in live football, where a short delay can coincide with a goal or another material event. The system does not have to accept a selection at a price that changed before acceptance.

VAR, official data and result corrections

VAR can affect whether a goal, penalty, red card or other incident is recognised. A market may be suspended while officials review the decision, and settlement may wait until reliable official data is available. An initial live feed or an on-screen score is not necessarily the final official result.

Where an official source later corrects a result or event record, Habesha Bet may review the affected bet according to its published terms. This can include a correction to a goal time, player identity, card, corner or match status. The applicable rule may differ by market, so an apparent early settlement should not be treated as conclusive when a formal review is still possible.

Player, cards and corners markets

Player, cards and corners markets often contain conditions that are more specific than those used for a match result. Cards may be counted only when shown to players on the pitch, or the market may address staff and substitutes separately. Corners are normally based on officially awarded and taken corners, but the relevant market definition should be checked.

A player selection may be void when the player does not take part, although this depends on the market rules and any minimum participation condition. An own goal is also not automatically credited to the player for a player-goals market. Do not rely on general football convention where the market has its own definition: check the specific market rules before placing a bet.

Examples of football bet settlement

Scenario: Team A and Team B finish 1–1 after regular time. Team A wins 2–1 during extra time.
Settlement: A standard 1X2 selection on Team A is generally settled as a draw because the market covers 90 minutes and stoppage time. A market expressly including extra time may be different.

Scenario: A match is 0–0 after regular time, and Team B wins the penalty shootout.
Settlement: An Over 0.5 total-goals selection for 90 minutes generally loses because no goal was scored during the covered period. Shootout kicks are not normally added to that total.

Scenario: A scheduled fixture is cancelled before kick-off and no special market condition applies.
Settlement: The selection may become a football betting void, with the stake refunded, subject to the applicable cancellation and event-timing rules.

Scenario: A live selection is submitted while VAR is checking a possible penalty.
Settlement: The market may remain suspended, accept the bet at updated odds, or reject the request. The confirmed bet slip determines whether an accepted bet exists.

Scenario: A bet is placed on Team C “To Qualify,” and the team advances after extra time and penalties.
Settlement: The selection may win when the market includes both stages. If the market excludes the shootout or has another definition, its specific rules apply.

Responsible football betting

Football betting should be treated as entertainment, not as a way to earn income or recover losses. Set a budget and time limit before playing, and never stake money needed for essential expenses. Available tools may include deposit or spending limits, breaks, account restrictions and self-exclusion. If betting no longer feels manageable, stop and seek support through Responsible Gaming. Football betting is for adults only; review the Age Restriction Policy and do not allow underage people to use your account.
